Maryland State Fire Marshalls are investigating a house fire in St. Mary’s County that has left one family homeless.
Firefighters from Avenue, Leonardtown, Seventh District, Mechanicsville, Hollywood and Bay District responded to the 37600 block of Louis Bailey Road in Avenue on Jan. 25 around 11:43 a.m.
The fire broke out in a single family home owned by Michael and Chong Dix and was discovered by a neighbor. The fire appears to have originated on the first floor. Smoke alarms were present and working at the time of the fire. Crews battled heavy flames for an extended period of time before bringing the fire under control.
The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, the fire remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
Damage estimate is totaling $170,000.
