MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — Firefighters from across Southern Maryland responded Sunday night to a large garage fire at Hayes Auction Services on New Market Turner Road.
The blaze broke out around 9:20 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2025, engulfing a 50-by-100-foot storage structure before crews brought it under control.
According to Hayes Auction Services, the fire occurred in one of their personal storage buildings and did not impact their main facilities. In a statement Monday, the business thanked multiple departments for their quick and professional response, including Mechanicsville, Hollywood, Leonardtown, 7th District, Hughesville, Waldorf, Bel Alton, and Dentsville fire and rescue teams.
“Everyone here is safe and sound, and we are very appreciative,” the business said. “This in no way affects this weekend’s auction. We are still taking consignments today and tomorrow, preview day is still Oct. 16, and the auction will continue as normal starting Oct. 17.”
The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
