LUSBY, Md. – Fire and rescue crews responded Saturday evening to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of Planters Wharf Road in Lusby. The call was received at 6:18 p.m. on April 18 and dispatched as a working fire.

According to initial information, the caller reported a residential single‑family dwelling with fire in the attic and upper portions of the home. The caller confirmed all occupants had safely evacuated and that power to the residence had been shut off. No injuries were reported.

Units from Calvert County emergency units along with command staff and support units, responded to the scene.

First-arriving crews reported smoke showing from the side of the one‑story home. Command’s 360‑degree assessment identified light smoke from the corner eavesand fire involving an attic fan and surrounding insulation, with limited extension.

A working fire dispatch was requested to bring additional resources, and units staged along Sawmill Road while crews accessed the attic and initiated suppression. Firefighters quickly contained the fire, preventing further spread into the living areas.

Command later reported no active fire remaining, with crews performing overhaul and ventilation to remove residual smoke from the attic.

During the incident a firefighter experienced a seizure, went unconscious, fell and hit his face, causing lacerations. He was administered CPR and regained consciousness and prepared for transportation to a local trauma center.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
