HOLLYWOOD, Md. — Fire and emergency personnel rescued a young girl on Tuesday after a sledding accident in a wooded area near Joy Chapel Road and Spriggs Court.

Crews were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:05 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2025, after a caller reported the girl had suffered a possible compound fracture to her leg and could not be moved.

Upon arrival, firefighters used a stokes basket, ropes, and blankets to stabilize and extract the patient from the steep terrain. The Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department’s UTV 1 was deployed to assist with transporting the girl from the woods.

Once safely out of the area, the patient was transferred to ambulance A398, where EMS personnel assessed her injuries. She was then taken to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for further treatment.
