Lusby, MD – The annual Race to the Creek, a five kilometer (K) dash up and down Southern Connector Boulevard in Lusby, was held Independence Day morning. The “Creek” in this case is Mill Creek Middle School (MCMS), which is the race’s halfway mark. The runners and walkers start at Patuxent High School (PHS), proceed west to MCMS, and then head back to the high school. The course has flat roads and rolling hills.

The top finisher in this year’s Independence Day event was Phillip White, who logged a time of 17 minutes and eight seconds. Behind him were Turner Chaundy, who completed the course in 17 minutes and 41 seconds; and Jevoni Moore, whose time was 18 minutes and 48 seconds.

The top finisher among females was Anna Staats.

Proceeds from the race help support the PHS Track and Field program. The race was organized by Dave Walser, a health/physical education teacher at PHS, who also serves as head coach for track and field; and indoor track. Walser thanked the participants for spending a portion of their holiday racing to aid the program. He also thanked the race’s sponsors, most notably Sneade’s Ace Home Center, who has supported Race to the Creek from the beginning. Other businesses supporting the race were Back Creek Inn, Alexander Chiropractic Center, Lighthouse Inn, Maertens Fine Jewelry and Patuxent Adventure Center.
