CALIFORNIA, Md. – Emergency crews responded to the Patuxent River near Green Holly Road on Tuesday evening after a small catamaran capsized, briefly stranding four people in the water.

At around 6:50 p.m. on May 13, 2025, the U.S. Coast Guard received a report from a woman on shore who saw at least three youths aboard a boat that overturned in the water.

Responders quickly located three of the occupants, all wearing life jackets, safely on shore. They declined medical care at the scene.

A fourth person was rescued shortly after and evaluated by emergency medical services.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the incident.

  1. Thank goodness they had their PFDs.
“Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the incident.”
How about ‘not heeding the warning of unstable weather’ before setting sail?

  2. All four now have better understandings of water safety and first-hand experience of crisis navigation. This was just another day in the era many of us are from.
