OWINGS, Md. — A 40-year-old Owings man was arrested Sunday morning after an incident in which he allegedly trespassed onto private property, stole two beers from a cooler, performed a “ritual” with sticks, and repeatedly claimed to be the President of the United States.
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence on North Solomons Island Road at approximately 7:49 a.m. on July 27, 2025, for a report of a suspicious person. A female resident told deputies she saw a man, later identified as David Michael Eirich, take two Coors Light beers from her husband’s cooler in their driveway.
Deputies located Eirich sitting in the residents’ backyard with two “extremely cold” beers. Eirich claimed his Ford Bronco had broken down the previous night and he left it to find something to drink. He insisted the property was a “public parcel” and that he was not trespassing.
According to the statement of probable cause, Eirich’s behavior grew increasingly strange as he “started a ritual… by holding two small sticks together, stating that, due to the law, deputies couldn’t interfere with it while being conducted, or would face jail time.” He also stated at various times that he was the President of the United States.
Upon being arrested, Eirich resisted by refusing to stand and making his body heavy. While being transported to the detention center, he rambled about giving deputies the “electric chair” for arresting him and spoke in a British accent. At the jail, he refused to exit the patrol car, requiring the jail’s Emergency Response Team to extract him and ultimately place him in a restraint chair.
The property owner, who was not home, confirmed via phone that Eirich had no permission to be on her land and, along with the residents who have small children, wanted him trespassed indefinitely.
Eirich was charged with trespassing on private property, failure to obey a lawful order, and theft less than $100. All charges are misdemeanors, with potential penalties including several months in jail and fines. Court records show he was released on his own recognizance later that day, with a trial scheduled for Sept. 5, 2025.
