Dowell, MD โ€“ Of all the popular year-round events at southern Calvert Countyโ€™s Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center, the Christmas Seasonโ€™s Garden in Lights just might outshine them all.

The unforgettable light show began Dec. 5 and continues until Jan. 3.

The event has been recognized by Maryland Life Magazine, which awarded the sculpture garden its โ€œFinest Holiday Tradition Award.โ€

According to a press release from the facility, which is located on Dowell Road, the amazing โ€œlight sculpturesโ€ include โ€œmythical beasts, wild animals, airplanes, pirates, princesses, circus performers and dinosaurs.โ€

The light sculptures are made on-site so โ€œthe designs are one-of-a-kind. Nothing in this show is commercially available.โ€

In addition to the light show, attendees can enjoy nightly entertainment, sweet treats and other fun activities. The nightly events run from 6 to 9 p.m., weather permitting.

Admission is $6 per person, children 4 and under and Annmarie members are admitted free.

Among the entertainers on the bill in the days leading up to Christmas are: singer/guitarist Steve Gellman (Sunday, Dec. 21), Calvert Brass Consortium (Monday, Dec. 22); and the all-female group Bootleggers (Tuesday, Dec. 23). On Tuesday, Dec. 23 attendees can get $1 off admission for wearing a holiday sweater.

Garden in Lights will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, however, Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center will be open New Yearโ€™s Eve Wednesday, Dec. 31 with a performance by pianist Ben Paskoff.

If you havenโ€™t seen the 2014 Garden in Lights yet, enjoy the photographs of The Bay Netโ€™s Ron Bailey first.ย  Itโ€™s an ideal way to put a little magic into your Yuletide Season.
