Gateau Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine has offered Southern Maryland “professional treatment with personal care” for more than 20 years. In July, Gateau Physical Therapy will open the Medically Oriented Gym or M.O.G.SM with the goal of “Bridging the Gap between Medicine and Fitness”. This state-of-the-art facility will be opening in California and will be the first facility to offer this type of service in Southern Maryland.
Gateau Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine was established in 1987 by Southern Maryland native, Bonnie Gateau. Bonnie opened her first office in Lusby, Maryland. In the years since opening that office, Bonnie has continued to grow her business and her reputation in Southern Maryland. Today, Gateau Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine has 2 thriving, conveniently located offices in St. Mary’s and Calvert counties.

In keeping with Bonnie’s goal of providing services that address the needs of the community, Gateau Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine is proud to announce the opening of the first Medically Oriented Gym or M.O.G.SM in the area. A M.O.G.SM is different from traditional gyms since all patrons will work with Maryland-licensed Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants and highly-skilled Exercise Physiologists. A comprehensive evaluation will be performed on the first visit and every 90 days thereafter, with a printout of the evaluation results to the member and their physician if appropriate. It will include a complete medical history, activity profile, diet questionnaire, body mass index, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and more. Once the evaluation is completed, a personalized exercise plan, based on the data from the M.O.G.SM evaluation and the client goals is created. The M.O.G.SM staff will continue to monitor, progress, and advise the client at each subsequent visit.
