The 4th of July parade is an integral part of the fabric that is small-town America. Every year Golden Beach holds its own version of that essential ingredient to go along with the fireworks, hot dogs and potato salad. Everything that can move and everyone for that matter is draped in red, white and blue. Golf carts, scooters, motorcycles, cars and trucks, antique vehicles, fire trucks and emergency vehicle roll through town emblazoned in Old Gloryโs colors. At every house in the comfortable beach town people gather in family groups to show their appreciation and scoop up the candy tossed at them from the passing parade participants. All five county commissioners and Rep. Steny Hoyer participated. At dusk on Saturday fireworks capped off the day.
This year because the actual 4th of July occurs midweek the events all over Southern Maryland are spread out over two weekends and throughout the week.
