Leonardtown, Md. — July 30, 2019 — It was a great Aviation Day in Leonardtown. Approximately 75 people attended the opening ceremonies of the Aviation Day event.

National Aviation Day is celebrated annually in August. However, the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County chose July 30 to recognize the day this year inviting the public to be a part of the day with displays, UAS exhibitions and professional aviators onsite to answer questions.

There were many representatives of state government office including Governor Larry Hogan’s office. Gretchen Hardman, Southern Maryland Liaison for Governor Larry Hogan, read a National Aviation Day citation from the Governor.

President Franklin Roosevelt first proclaimed the day in 1939 as a way to celebrate the history and development of the aviation industry in the United States.
