St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Kristi Nelson, school resource deputy, was alerted on Monday to students who were flashing paper currency in the hallway of Great Mills High School. After contacting the students, Corporal Nelson learned each of them had sold a cellular telephone to another student. The cash the student used to pay for the phones was determined to be counterfeit.
The suspect who purchased the phones was identified as a 15 year old female, of Lexington Park. The student was arrested yesterday by Corporal Nelson and charged with 3 COUNTS Possession Counterfeit Currency and 3 COUNTS of Theft Under $1,000. She was also charged with Fraud stemming from a separate investigation involving the use of a cell phone and credit card belonging to a relative. The suspect was processed and released to the custody of her parents pending her appearance in juvenile court.
Additional cases, involving the same suspect, are continuing to be investigated.
