Help Mike's Bikes Make A Difference This Christmas

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Mike Schwartz is a small business owner in Southern Maryland. He owns Mike’s Bikes and uses his community presence to help less fortunate families every Christmas.

In September 2024, Schwartz ordered 1,000 turkeys, canned goods, and other festive foods to help create a memorable holiday for low-income residents in Lexington Park. Thousands of families in Southern Maryland go without a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner every year, which is why Schwartz has been helping to feed the people of St. Mary’s County by writing a letter to the community since 1983.

Now, Schwartz is calling on local residents to help deliver the food and donate to this worthy cause. The distribution will begin at 4 p.m. on Dec. 17 and 18. The food will be given out at Zion United Methodist Church, 21291 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park, MD 20653.

By donating $35, Mike’s Food Fund will provide a 10-pound turkey, 10 pounds of potatoes, and various canned goods to a family in need.

To volunteer or donate, call 301-863-7887. Those unable to help distribute food this holiday can donate money by sending a check to Mike’s Food Fund at 21310C Great Mills Road, Lexington Park, MD 20653. Venmo donations can also be arranged by contacting the number above.

In 2023, Schwartz also organized food drives to help feed St. Mary’s County, and he donates food to church pantries weekly, including the Church of the Ascension. Schwartz’s initiatives not only provide holiday meals to those in need but also bring the Lexington Park community together.

Whether through money, time, or other forms of support, all contributions are appreciated to ensure everyone in Southern Maryland has a merry Christmas. To learn more about Schwartz and his generous tradition, visit the Mike’s Food Fund Facebook page.
