Gaby Hernandez went seven strong innings as the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters by the final score of 5-2 at Constellation Field. Southern Maryland is now within a game of first place in the Freedom Division.

Hernandez (5-9) went seven innings allowing just two runs for his first win since July 18. Ben Kozlowski suffered the loss lasting just 2.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits.

The Blue Crabs took the lead with three runs in the 3rd inning. Jermaine Mitchell drove in two with a triple to put the Blue Crabs in front. Two batters later Mitchell scored on Jake Opitz RBI groundout to make it 3-0 Southern Maryland.

Bobby Stevens added an RBI single in the top of the 4th with one out for his 31st RBI of the season.

Hernandez allowed his first runs in the 7th inning courtesy of an RBI double by Nick Stavinoha and an RBI single by Michael Rockett.
