A bomb threat at Thomas Stone High School was confirmed by Katie Oโ€™Malley-Simpson, the Communications and Media Relations Coordinator with Charles County Public Schools and Kristen Timko, the Media Relations Officer with Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

At 10:34 a.m. Monday an unidentified male caller phoned the office at Thomas Stone.ย  He told them there was a bomb in a trash can in the school set to go off in 45 minutes.ย  Police were notified and the school was evacuated.ย 

Charles County sheriffโ€™s officers and Maryland State Police arrived on the scene and checked the school classroom by classroom.ย  By 11:54 a.m. students were permitted to return to their classrooms.

Thomas Stone High School has suffered a barrage of bad publicity and has been the subject of various concerns, including a brawl involving more than 15 students (April 2007) and a gun possession (February 2007) on school grounds during school hours.

At the last Charles County Board of Education meeting, CCSO deputies reported that there were ten recorded bomb threatsย during the 2006-07 school yearย in Charles County Public Schools.
