An intoxicated man went on a short joyride in Lexington Park on Monday afternoon that ended when he crashed into the outer wall of Mr. Tire.
A victim called police after the errant vehicle struck his car and kept going. The victim/witness stayed on the line with police and watched the vehicle strike other cars and go through yards and alleys.
The drunk driver, later identified by police as Paul D. Atkinson, drove behind Bad Boys Customs and struck a vehicle transmission and other property. The escapade ended with Atkinson crashing into Mr. Tire.
One of the wheels on the vehicle was a worn down to the rim.
When police made contact with Atkinson, he refused to cooperate. He repeatedly told officers statements such as “leave me alone, I’m going home.”
The man threw himself to the ground when being taken into police custody, and acted like ‘dead weight’. Officers hoisted the man by his arms and legs toward a police car.
During the altercation with officers, the driver apparently soiled himself, because police utilized a tarp to wrap the man as he was placed in the squad car.
The Maryland State Police is investigating the case.
