On Saturday, Dec. 6, the public is invited to join Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum staff and Patterson Center garden volunteers to make a wreath for the holiday season in the annual wreath workshop. Beautiful plant materials from the Point Farm gardens, which are part of the estate home and retreat of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Patterson, will be used to create these wreaths. These materials include magnolia, boxwood, holly, pines, pine cones and magnolia seed pods. Participants will complete their wreaths with bows and other ornaments included in the price of the workshop.
Class size is limited and reservations are required. Fee for the workshops is $20 or $18 for members of the Friends of JPPM. Please call (410)586-8501 or email jppm@mdp.state.md.us to make reservations.
Also on Dec. 6, the public is invited to a guided tour of Point Farm, located on Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum in Calvert County. The Point Farm home sits on a high point of land with a commanding view of both St. Leonard Creek and the Patuxent River. Built in 1932, this Colonial Revival brick house was the country estate home and retreat of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Patterson. Designed by Gertrude Sawyer, one of America’s first noted female architects, the house was constructed using the same bricks used in the restoration of Wakefield, the birthplace of George Washington. Many original furnishings remain in the house. The gardens are being restored based on the original plans by landscape architect Rose Greely.
The tour starts at 2 p.m and reservations are required. The fee is $10 per person and $8 for senior citizens (55+). The tour is designed for those 10 years old or older. Please call (410) 586-8501 for reservations or visit www.jefpat.org for more information about JPPM.
