HOLLYWOOD, Md. — The Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad recently took the time to reflect on their past year of service and prepare for 2022.

The Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad held its annual Installation of Officers on November 6. The Installation was held at the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department’s Social Hall.

The Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad officially went into operation on November 6, 1975, and has been performing emergency rescue services in the area ever since.

The Installation occurs annually to elect the Chief and Executive Officers.

“We do the installment of new officers and an awards banquet to look back on the previous year,” Chief Billy Yost said.

Yost explained that the election period for the officers lasts about two months and the officers hold their positions for a year until the next election. The line officers, who are selected by the Chief, are also installed at the event.

Awards are given out at the banquet for a variety of achievements. Some awards include Length of Service, the Chief’s Award, President’s Award, and Squad Member of the Year. Ten Top Responders awards are also given out to the members of the rescue squad who responded to the most calls.

The members of the Auxiliary, who raise funds for the Rescue Squad, also had their Installment of Officers and awards ceremony at the event.
