LEONARDTOWN, Md. — St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks is inviting residents to help shape the future of local parks, recreational facilities and open spaces through a series of community engagement sessions scheduled June 4-6.
The outreach effort is part of the department’s ongoing five-year master planning process, known as the Land Preservation, Parks & Recreation Plan. Officials say the plan will serve as a roadmap for future recreational amenities, open spaces and community investments throughout St. Mary’s County.
Residents are encouraged to attend one of four public engagement sessions where they can learn more about the planning process, hear a presentation from consultants and participate in activities designed to gather community feedback.
The sessions are open to all residents and are scheduled as follows:
Thursday, June 4
- Session 1: 9:30-11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Gymnastics Academy
Friday, June 5
- Session 2: 9:30-11 a.m. at the Charlotte Hall Library
- Session 3: Noon-1:30 p.m. at the Leonardtown Library
Saturday, June 6
- Session 4: 9:15-10:15 a.m. at the Wicomico Shores Golf Course
In addition to the in-person meetings, residents can participate online through an interactive engagement platform. The site allows users to share ideas, view suggestions from others, contribute to an ideas wall, use a budget prioritization tool and complete a survey. Find out more HERE
Officials say public participation is critical to ensuring future parks and recreation investments reflect the needs and priorities of county residents.
“Our future” is the focus of the initiative, organizers said, encouraging community members to help design tomorrow’s recreational opportunities today.
More information about the planning process and online engagement opportunities is available through St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks.
