The weather was unseasonably brisk but sunny, ideal, as it turns out for the Fifth Annual Calvert Home Show. The exposition raises funds for the Prince Frederick Volunteer Rescue Squad (Company 4). The weekend event was held May 4 and 5 at the Calvert County Fairgrounds in Barstow.
โItโs really been a great weekend,โ said Terry Quinn, the local artist who coordinates the event. Quinn estimated Saturdayโs crowd at 1,000 with anywhere from 500 to 700 expected to attend Sunday.
In addition to over 60 vendors, the home show included giveaways, an animal petting zoo, food, a moon bounce and a live broadcast by WKIK radio. Saturdayโs throng had a chance to meet racing legend Bunny Burkett, an addition that Quinn said proved to be very popular.
Another popular feature was the Prince Frederick Masonic Lodgeโs Child Identification Program (CHIPS). Quinn reported that many parents with young children came to the expo specifically to take advantage of CHIPS, an effort by the local Masons to aid authorities and families in the recovery of missing children.
The event is free and supported by vendors and other participating businesses. Quinn reported close to $10,000 was raised for Company 4. โItโs been great,โ said Quinn.
