On Sunday September 25th, the Red Knights Firefighters Motorcycle Club (Maryland 4) hosted its 2nd Annual Justin (J-Ryde) Hutchinson Memorial Scholarship ride. Local volunteer firefighters from Waldorf and Benedict participated.
Justin Hutchinson was a 19-year-old Fire Lieutenant with the Benedict Volunteer Fire Department who was killed by a drunk driver on Route 231 in Hughesville. Justin was pursuing a Fire Science degree at the Charles County Community College. He had only a year left before obtaining his degree.

The Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association and the Fire Cadet Program offered by the Charles County Board of Education has created a scholarship in Justin’s name. The Red Knights support this scholarship by contributing $1,000 each every year. We have awarded two scholarships already and with your help we can keep this program going.
The ride Sunday started at Hooters in Waldorf and ended at the Toot’s Bar in St. Mary’s County. There were several stops on the way, including a 50/50 raffle.
Starting next year, similar scholarship programs will begin in Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties. The Red Knights will again be supporting these scholarships as well.

The Waldorf and Benedict Volunteer Fire Departments and the Red Knights Motorcycle Club thank everyone that participated in the 2nd Annual Ride, including the 70-plus motorcycles that made the ride.
