Dameron, MD – A fire sparked by an electrical malfunction caused heavy damage to a St. Mary’s County home Wednesday morning, Dec. 2, state officials reported.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze did an estimated $80,000 to the single-story family home on Three Notch Road in Dameron. A passing motorist reported the fire at approximately 9:29 a.m.

“The cause of the fire was determined to be the result of an electrical malfunction at an electrical outlet,” Dfm. John Nelson reported. “The fire caused moderate damage to the home. The occupants were displaced and are being assisted by family and friends.”

Nelson reported 25 volunteer firefighters from Ridge, Bay District, Second District and Hollywood, along with firefighters from Patuxent River Naval Air Station were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in five minutes.

The fire reportedly originated in a bathroom.

According to Nelson’s investigation notice, the house is owned and occupied by Sydney and Cynthia Roberson.
