WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after Senate Republicans released a draft version of their TrumpCare bill:
“Earlier today, Senate Republicans released their TrumpCare bill, which was written in secret and without input from the American public. The rushed legislation would slash Medicaid funding and end the Medicaid expansion, jeopardizing coverage for hundreds of thousands in our state. The bill would also eliminate tax credits that help middle class families purchase health coverage, repeal subsidies that reduce out-of-pocket costs, and impose an age tax on older Americans.
“The Senate bill is no better than the House’s TrumpCare legislation – which President Trump himself has called ‘mean’ – and would have dire consequences for families across our state. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to reject this bill, and prevent this extreme legislation from being rushed to the Floor for consideration.”
