Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) announced today that he will conduct his second telephone town hall meeting on Tuesday, September 25, from 6:45-7:45 p.m. Rep. Hoyer held his first town hall in May, reaching more than 2,000 5th Congressional District constituents. The telephone town hall technology allows participants to hear directly from their Congressman and have the opportunity to ask questions – much like the format of a traditional town hall.

โ€œThe telephone town hall offers a convenient channel for citizens to voice their opinions, concerns, and questions about a range of issues,โ€ stated Rep. Hoyer. โ€œI was so pleased with the success of my first telephone town hall in reaching such a large number of people, that I have scheduled another one with the hope of offering even more citizens the opportunity to participate in the dialogue.โ€

Utilizing a new computer generated program, the telephone town hall operates like a large-scale conference call between Rep. Hoyer and potentially tens of thousands of 5th CD constituents. At the outset of Tuesdayโ€™s town hall meeting, a random selection of 5th CD households will be dialed to receive a call from Rep. Hoyer inviting them to participate. Call recipients then have the option of staying on the line to hear opening remarks by Rep. Hoyer followed by the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session.

To guarantee participation, citizens can also dial into the call at 866-447-5149 and enter the pin number 12897. If you have further questions about the telephone town hall, please call Stephanie Lundberg in Rep. Hoyerโ€™s Washington office at (202) 225-4131.

Since Rep. Hoyer held his telephone town hall in May, several other Members in the U.S. House have embraced the technology as a way to enhance constituent communications.
