This is Hughesville Hurricanes 4th season participating in the CCYFL (Charles County Youth Football League).ย They have double in size since they started this non-profit organization and I believe that is because they always put the kids first and have 3 rules the players must follow: 1. Family, 2. School, 3. Football.ย
Our team started practicing in July and they have been improving and excelling since. Their overall record was 12-2-1, including the State Tournament games.ย We were ranked throughout the season, but started in the Tournament as a lower seed making them the visiting team at each game.ย
These boys played Prince Frederick on Saturday December 1st at Ryken High School and beat them 30-0…then everyone had to rush the Bel Air, MD for the 1st round of the State Tournament the very next day at 8:30am to play the #2 ranked team Bowie Bulldogs…we beat them 19-0.ย
The semi-finals was played in Columbia, MD against the Catonsville Stars…that was a hard fought game but we managed to win again 14-13.ย The MD State Championship was played at Good Counsel High School December 16th against the Stembridge Colts, we beat them 25-14.ย
In addition to winning the MD State Championship, we had 4 players selected to play in the 10u MD State All Star game on Sunday December 30th at Maryland University Bryd Stadium.ย
Even though only 4 players were selected, every week from July until December each player on our team contributed something valuable to the team and we would have never gotten as far as we did without each player working together, the awesome coaching staff and a wonderful league supporting us every step of the way and reminding each player of their 3 rules: 1. Family, 2. School, 3. Football.
