CALVERT COUNTY, Md. — It was a historic day for Calvert County football as two high schools — Huntingtown High School and Patuxent High School — captured state championships on the same day in back-to-back thrillers at Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis on Dec. 6
Even if it wasn’t their own school on the field, people across Southern Maryland were cheering on the local teams — and the schools delivered. There was a strong sense of local pride as the region watched these players take the field in Annapolis.
Patuxent High School staged an exciting 35-28 comeback win over Fort Hill High School to claim the MPSSAA Class 1A State Championship. The victory gives Patuxent back-to-back state championships, and their first title in Class 1A after winning in 2A/1A last season.

Just hours later, Huntingtown High School secured its first-ever state title with a hard-fought 24-21 victory over Northern High School in the MPSSAA Class 2A State Championship. The Hurricanes delivered in every phase of the game, edging out their county rivals in one of the most intense matchups of the season. The win marks a milestone moment for the Huntingtown football program, bringing home its first state championship in school history.

And while Calvert County celebrates a championship sweep, Charles County also had reason to stand proud.
Henry E. Lackey High School reached the Class 2A/1A State Championship, facing off against Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. Though the Chargers fell 50-26, their appearance in the title game marked a major achievement for the team — their first trip to the state finals in more than two decades.

Three Southern Maryland high schools. Three state finals. Two champions. One unforgettable weekend.
