LA PLATA, Md. — A Huntingtown woman has been found guilty of felony theft following a jury trial in Charles County Circuit Court in a case involving a local nonprofit organization.

Nichole Renee Keihn, 43, was convicted on March 24, 2026, of theft between $1,500 and $25,000 following a two-day jury trial before Judge Monise A. Stephenson.

The conviction stems from a series of incidents that occurred between August 2022 and June 2024, during which prosecutors alleged Keihn misappropriated funds while serving in a fiduciary role with The Promise Resource Center, the nonprofit identified as the victim in the case.

A jury found Keihn guilty after hearing evidence presented during the trial, court records show.

The conviction reflects a lower theft amount than originally alleged in the indictment.

The case spanned months of court proceedings, including multiple postponements and pretrial hearings before ultimately proceeding to trial in late March.

Keihn had previously failed to appear for a court hearing in September 2025, resulting in a bench warrant for her arrest. She was later taken into custody and released following a bail review hearing.

The theft charge carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine under Maryland law, though sentencing will be determined at a later date.

A hearing is set for May 28, 2026, in Charles County Circuit Court.

The case was prosecuted by the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office.
