The following statement is from Historic Sotterley’s Board of Trustees, five of whom are Descendants of the site.

“Historic Sotterley has and will continue to focus on reconciliation while honoring the organization’s mission of    preserving, presenting, and telling the story of the site and the people who lived on it.  In recent years, Historic Sotterley has embarked on our Common Ground initiative and our Descendants’ Project.  They help us facilitate healing through shared journeys which lead to understanding and compassion. What is being experienced and felt across our nation makes us realize that as a society we must examine our shared values and increase our empathy for one another. The recent acts of racism and the nation’s response are stark reminders of what we stand to lose.  Historic Sotterley is committed to doing all that it can to bring everyone together as a community as we  strive for unity and healing.”

We invite our community to join us on Facebook, Sunday, June 7th, at 1:00 pm to  come together virtually for a moment of reflection.  The video will be posted  at 1:00 pm, and will be shared on our website on Monday, June 8th  for those unable to participate on Sunday.
