PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Local groups in Calvert County are inviting residents to get out and get to know the people in their neighborhood through the National Night Out event on Aug. 4.

This annual event brings residents together with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police Barrack U, local fire, rescue and emergency services personnel, and other organizations to “promote neighborhood camaraderie and safety.”

Calvert County’s National Night Out is a group of events that will take place at different times and locations around the county to foster community connection. Residents can check the Calvert County events page to find a list of locations and participating events near them. The events will feature cookouts, games and safety demonstrations.

National Night Out is a nationwide movement to support partnerships and cooperation between communities and law enforcement. Launched in 1984, the event has grown to incorporate other public safety entities and public service organizations.

For Calvert County, the community event is coordinated by the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse in partnership with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police Barrack U. Funding of National Night Out supplies for participating communities is provided by the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse.

Communities can register to participate on the Calvert County National Night Out page, and residents can follow the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse on Facebook for the latest information and to see a schedule of events.
