Jane Eleanor Mattingly Hayden, 89, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025 in California, MD. Born on October 9, 1935, in Uniontown, MD. Jane was the daughter of the late Annie Elizabeth Mattingly and John F. Mattingly Sr.
She was the loving wife of Allan Hayden, who passed away in 2021, and mother to four children: James Franklin “Jim,” Jones Allan “Tub,” Kathleen Ann “Kitten,” and Michael Lambert “Bub.” She was sister to Lucille Elizabeth “Betty” Shepherd, John F. “Frank” Mattingly Jr., and William Edgar “Tojo” Mattingly all deceased.
Jane is survived by her children: James (Mary Ann) Hayden of California, MD; Jones (Nancy) Hayden of Brussels, Belgium; Kitten (Lenny) Wood of Leonardtown, MD; and Michael (Heather) Hayden of Chantilly, VA; and by 6 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
Jane graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1953. She was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. Jane worked for many years at Patuxent River Naval Air Station as a Math Technician for the U.S. Government.
In accordance with Jane’s wishes, there will be no public viewing or funeral service. A private burial will take place at Charles Memorial Gardens for immediate family.
