Joseph Calvert Bean, 84, passed away on March 20, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 5, 1939 in Valley Lee, MD, to the late Grace Elizabeth Knott Bean and William Calvert Bean.

Joe spent most of his life enjoying everything St. Mary’s County has to offer. He loved spending time on his boat crabbing in his secret spots, or fishing fresh and salt waters. He was an avid hunter whether it be deer, rabbit, raccoon, duck, goose or turkey. Joe loved to share his bounty. He would have seafood feasts where he cooked crabs, fish, fried oysters, fried alligator and sometimes turtle plus all kinds of vegetables from his garden. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and when it was open, he spent Friday nights at the Potomac Speedway circle track. Joe was also a softball umpire for many years.

Joe was a carpenter by trade and worked in the Washington DC area for many years at P&P Contractors. He retired to St. Mary’s County and later moved to Virginia, where he has been living for the past several years.

Joe is survived by his son Robby Bean (Karen); his daughter Pam Sherwood (James); his grandchildren Alex Bean, Anthony Bean (Maria Alvey) and Christy Tester (Cody); his great-granddaughters Evie Bean and Willow Tester; his stepsons Frank Domonousky (Cathy) and Fred Domonousky; his step-grandsons Frank Domonousky and Brad Domonousky; his beloved girlfriend Judy Bridgett Watling and her family. Joe also leaves behind his siblings Margie Street, Charlie Bean (Mickey), Dot Troglin, Jean Brumley, Sue Wawrzynski (Ski), Janice Burch (Randy), and Larry Wise; brother-in-law John Pugh; a large extended family; and Judy’s family who graciously welcomed him. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Aggie Beining and Betty Pugh; brother-in-laws Emmett Street, Richard Brumley, Morris Troglin, Chuck Beining; sister-in-law Cindy Wise; and stepdaughter Patty Shanahan.
