Raymond Daniel Posey III
La Plata, MD – The Charles County Stateโs Attorneyโs Office has waited a long time to prosecute Raymond Daniel Posey III, 24 of Nanjemoy, for the 2011 murder of Crystal Keyona Anderson, 29 from Prince Georgeโs County.
Now prosecutors Francis Granados and Jonathan Beattie will have to wait just a little longer.
A snafu with jury selection has caused the trial to be postponed another day.
Charles County Circuit Court Judge H. James West said that at least four jurors selected Monday, Sept. 19 were excused Tuesday morning after disclosing they had โserious daycare issues.
โOn Monday we received a panel [of potential jurors] of 65 people,โ West announced to the court Sept. 20. โWe should have had a bigger panel but we did what we could,โ he noted, adding that out of the pool 12 jurors and four alternates were chosen.
When the four jurors initially complained to the judge about daycare concerns for their children, West excused them, telling the courtroom that this extenuating circumstance has thrown a wrench in the works.
โSo we have excused three jurors and one alternate,โ West said. โWe really canโt proceed with only one alternate.
โWeโre going to bring in another larger panel and pick another jury, which probably means we will have to start the trial on Wednesday,โ he explained.
Posey was indicted Feb. 23, 2015 on 11 counts including first-degree murder.
According to Charles County Sheriff’s Office Det. John Elliott, Anderson was last seen alive leaving a 2011 party in Nanjemoy with the defendant.
Her body was found in Purse State Park in January 2012.
