BALTIMORE – A boutique clothing store in Kansas City, Missouri reached out to its customers to help nominate a Baltimore business in an effort to give back.
Pink Dinosaur had a history-making day after the Chiefs beat the Ravens. They thanked their customers for supporting them and mentioned how much time it takes to prep for the moment when the Chiefs won the AFC Championship.
Owner Elle Steadman said she was chatting with a friend who said “It could have been zero” if the Chiefs had lost.
“That got us thinking about all the small businesses in Baltimore who were hoping for a different outcome of the game. Like Pink Dinosaur they had probably prepared for a win and counted on those sales to pay rent or utilities or payroll,” said Steadman.
She asked customers to send a list of small businesses in Baltimore that she would share the love from Chiefs Kingdom.
“I know what it’s like to need those sales and depend on those sales and if you don’t have a good Christmas, then you hope to have a Super Bowl,” Steadman said.
Steadman received dozens of Baltimore suggestions, but there was one that seemed just right. Karma Fashion Boutique.
Karma’s owner Teresa Blatchy was in shock when she saw the votes pouring in for her boutique and said she was honored to be chosen.
“A Karma customer had nominated us in a contest that a boutique in Kansas City was having after the Ravens’ loss. The INCREDIBLE owner of The Pink Dinosaur in KS woke up on that Monday morning and thought…’what if it wasn’t us…what if Kansas didn’t win?’ In a completely selfless act of kindness, she reached out to her followers to nominate a Small Business in Baltimore that she could support! WHO DOES THIS,” she posted.
Blatchy joined a Zoom call with Steadman, who showed off pink hats with purple bills, for the Ravens, and a pink dinosaur.
“It was just really touching for another business owner to realize that there was some of us laying in bed crying, you know, from so far away,” Blatchy said.
