PARK HALL, Md. — A Mechanicsville man is facing drug and impaired-driving charges after a traffic stop near Point Lookout Road and Gilliam Drive led to a reported .16 breath test and the discovery of suspected cocaine inside a vehicle.
Matthew Tyler Eastburn, 31, of Mechanicsville, was arrested May 16, 2026, after a traffic stop in Park Hall, according to charging documents.
The case began after a 2014 Dodge Journey failed to come to a complete stop while exiting the parking lot of Cook’s Liquors and Deli onto Point Lookout Road. The vehicle’s registration sticker also appeared to be expired as of March 2026.
During the stop, Eastburn had glassy eyes, slow movements, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. He admitted to drinking four to five beers earlier in the evening at the ABC Lounge, charging documents state.
Eastburn agreed to standardized field sobriety tests. During the tests, he showed multiple signs of impairment, including losing balance, stepping off line and difficulty completing the walk-and-turn and one-leg stand portions.
He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. At the sheriff’s office, Eastburn agreed to submit to an intoximeter test and provided a breath sample of .16 BAC.
Before transport, a search of Eastburn’s vehicle was conducted. Police located a cigarette container on the passenger floorboard with a folded dollar bill inside. The dollar bill contained a white powdery substance identified as cocaine, according to court documents.
Eastburn is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance that is not cannabis, possession of CDS paraphernalia, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol per se, driving while impaired by alcohol, displaying expired registration plates and failing to stop before entering or crossing a highway from a private road or driveway.
Court records show Eastburn was issued a $500 unsecured personal bond on May 16, 2026, which was posted the same day.
A trial is scheduled for June 18, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court.
