LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A Hollywood woman was issued a summons after investigators reported jewelry was stolen from a Leonardtown home and later sold to a jewelry store in Charlotte Hall.
Nikki Marie Shirlene Bussey, 42, of Hollywood, was issued a summons on May 19, 2026, in a theft case filed in St. Mary’s District Court.
Charging documents state the investigation began May 6, 2026, after police responded to a Duke Drive residence in Leonardtown for a reported theft. The homeowner reported that two cleaners had been at the residence the day before for a monthly cleaning appointment.
The homeowner later noticed several pieces of jewelry were missing from a dresser drawer in the main bedroom, including gold hoop earrings and an anniversary ring. The ring was described in court documents as a diamond ring with a total weight of 1.21 carats and an estimated value of $5,895.
Investigators later contacted a jewelry store on Three Notch Road in Charlotte Hall after the store reported purchasing items from Bussey on May 15, 2026. The receipt listed several pieces of jewelry, including gold hoop earrings and other gold items, with Bussey receiving $1,350 from the business.
Police contacted Bussey at her Hollywood residence, where she was advised of the investigation. She denied taking the jewelry and reported pawning items belonging to her grandmother, including a tennis bracelet, necklace and ring. Investigators noted those items were not listed on the receipt from the jewelry store.
Bussey is charged with felony theft from $1,500 to under $25,000 and misdemeanor theft from $100 to under $1,500.
A preliminary inquiry is scheduled for June 26, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court. No judge was listed in the court scheduling information provided.
Under Maryland law, theft involving at least $1,500 but less than $25,000 is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000. Theft from $100 to under $1,500 carries up to six months in jail and/or a $500 fine for a first conviction.
