PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Special Education Citizens’ Advisory Committee (SECAC) has announced its open nomination period for its annual award.

The SECAC Award honors Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) staff who have made a difference in the lives of children with an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 plan.

Nominations must be submitted by parents or guardians by Friday, March 13. Parents and guardians can nominate a staff member through the online form, or a paper form can be requested by emailing SECAC@calvert.k12.md.us. The award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the Calvert High School auditorium. All nominees and nominating families will be invited to attend.

Organizers request that nominations be limited to one of the following categories:

  • IEP team (2-5 staff)
  • Individual special education teacher
  • Individual direct service providers (speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, social workers)
  • Individual other support staff (instructional assistants, bus driver, bus assistant, building services, IEP facilitator, nurses, administration, secretary, etc.)

Nominees should also have had “direct contact and impact” on a child during the current school year. The award will be decided by a panel of judges who are specifically looking for staff who went “above and beyond” for a child. Learn more by following SECAC online.
