WALDORF, Md. — A La Plata man was arrested on a warrant after police said surveillance footage showed a man being struck in the head with a metal object at the Smallwood Park and Ride in Waldorf.
Tyrone Lorenzo Parker, 38, of La Plata, is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault in connection with the March 19, 2026, incident.
A Charles County officer responded to the Smallwood Park and Ride, located at 1125 Smallwood Drive West, for a reported assault in progress, according to charging documents.
When the officer arrived, the injured man reported that an unknown person walked up behind him and struck him in the back of the head with an unknown metal object. The man told police the attacker then chased him around the parking lot with the object.
The injured man described the object as similar to a vehicle steering wheel locking club, according to charging documents.
EMS personnel responded and treated the man at the scene. The officer reported seeing a deep laceration bleeding from the back of the man’s head.
Police canvassed the area but did not find the suspect before he left the scene.
Investigators later obtained surveillance footage that allegedly showed the suspect walking up behind the man and striking him in the head with a metal object. The footage also showed the man running away while being chased by the same suspect, charging documents state.
Police also reviewed video from a bus the suspect had exited before the assault and saved an image for an attempt-to-identify bulletin.
After the bulletin was distributed, a Charles County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant contacted the investigating officer and said he believed the suspect was Parker, who was incarcerated at the Charles County Detention Center at the time, according to court documents.
The officer reviewed recent arrest photos of Parker using Charles County Sheriff’s Office files and determined Parker was the suspect in the incident, charging documents state.
Police said they attempted to interview Parker twice about the assault, but he refused both times.
An arrest warrant was issued May 28, 2026, by Judge Lisa A. Spencer and served May 29, 2026, according to court records.
Parker was ordered held without bond on May 29, 2026, and again following a June 1, 2026, bail review before Judge Kenneth A. Talley.
A preliminary hearing is set for June 26, 2026, in Charles District Court.
