Lally Earns United East Women’s Cross Country Senior Scholar-Athlete Award

LATHAM, N.Y. – Stacie Lally (Fallston, Md./Fallston) named the 2023 United East Conference Women’s Cross Country Senior Scholar-Athlete as announced by the league office Wednesday morning (Feb. 7).

For this award, a graduating senior student-athlete is selected based on a combination of their academic
success, athletic success, and service. An institution may nominate one student-athlete from each sport
and the winner will be selected by a voting group. The grade point average (GPA) for nominations will encompass the student-athlete’s cumulative GPA.

“I am proud of how Stacie has represented our institution and program both academically and athletically. She exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete and what it means to give back to her community,” third-year Head Coach Reava Potter said.

Criteria for the award is as follows:

  1. A student-athlete must have a senior or graduate student class standing.
  2. A student-athlete must be at least in his or her second year of competition at their current institution in any sport.
  3. Must be a leading contributor to a team’s success throughout the duration of his or her career.
  4. Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  5. Evidence of active leadership and community service involvement throughout collegiate career.

Lally collected two All-United East awards during her time at St. Mary’s College. The 5-4 senior captain placed sixth at the 2021 United East Women’s Cross Country Championships for First Team All-United East honors, clocking a personal-best time of 27:31.5. She then claimed a Third Team All-United East award as a senior after coming in 18th at this year’s championships.

As a biochemistry major, Lally owns a 3.689 cumulative GPA and has been a Dean’s List member five times. She has been a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society, since March 2023 while being named a United East Scholar-Athlete in 2022. Lally also landed on the 2021 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.

She volunteers her time with Best Buddies and tutors STEM students as a member of both the Biomolecular Organization of St. Mary’s Students (BOSS) and the St. Mary’s Chapter of the American Chemical Society (SMACS).

St. Mary’s College has now had five Seahawks named United East Senior Scholar-Athletes since the award’s inception for the 2022-23 academic year: Liam deLone-Bellsey ’23 (2022, men’s soccer), Hannah Gorel ’23 (2023, women’s tennis), Lily Davison ’23 (2023, women’s lacrosse), Quentin Pastore ’24 (2023, men’s cross country), and Lally.
