WALDORF, Md. — A Lexington Park man was charged after investigators reported LEGO kits and other merchandise were stolen from a Waldorf Target during two separate incidents in June.
James Daniel Seifert, 33, of Lexington Park, was charged with two counts of theft from $1,500 to under $25,000 and one count of theft scheme from $1,500 to under $25,000.
The charges stem from thefts reported June 14 and June 19, 2026, at Target, located at 3300 Western Parkway in Waldorf.
Charging documents state the June 19 theft was reported the next day. Investigators reported a suspect arrived at the store at approximately 5:25 p.m. in a silver Toyota passenger car, entered the business wearing a neon yellow shirt, black pants, black boots, a black face mask and a black baseball-style hat, and went to the LEGO section.
The suspect placed multiple LEGO kits in a shopping cart and attempted to leave the store without paying, charging documents state. A Target asset protection employee tried to stop him and pull the cart away, but the suspect pulled the cart back and left the store with stolen property.
One LEGO kit fell from the cart during the struggle, but the suspect left with six LEGO kits, investigators wrote. The stolen property was valued at $1,259.94.
Charging documents state the same suspect was also linked to a June 14 theft at the same Target. In that incident, the suspect allegedly entered the store shortly before closing, went to the LEGO section and selected seven LEGO kits, a HyperX Cloud Alpha gaming headset and a gray Goodfellow & Company sweatshirt.
The suspect left without paying and fled in a silver Toyota passenger car toward St. Patrick’s Drive, charging documents state. The stolen property in that incident was valued at $1,998.32.
Investigators reported the vehicle used in both thefts was identified through surveillance footage as a 2012 to 2014 silver Toyota Camry with a Maryland registration plate.
Charging documents state investigators later compared the Waldorf Target thefts with a theft reported at Walmart in California, Maryland, on June 25. A still image from that incident appeared to show the same suspect, and asset protection employees believed the suspect was Seifert based on previous theft incidents involving him at that store.
Investigators also reported Seifert had been listed as a suspect or charged in multiple thefts from businesses in St. Mary’s County between March and June 2026, including thefts involving LEGO kits, playing cards, clothing and household items.
On July 1, investigators went to Seifert’s listed address in Lexington Park and observed a 2012 silver Toyota Camry in the driveway. On July 3, members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office executed a search and seizure warrant at the residence.
During the search, clothing allegedly worn by Seifert during both Waldorf Target thefts was located and recovered, charging documents state.
A criminal summons was issued July 8, 2026. A preliminary inquiry is set for Aug. 31, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
