Leonardtown High School Cheerleaders Rock!

The Leonardtown High School varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders went all out at the recent 2009 Winter County Cheerleading Championship. The energetic group of enthusiastic women cheered their way to a first place finish against some rather tough competition.

The 2009 Winter County Championship Competition was held Saturday, Jan. 24 at Chopticon High School in Chaptico.  All three county schools participated in this event; Leonardtown, Great Mills and Chopticon.  This is Leonardtown varsity’s fifth consecutive time winning the county title.  There are 20 varsity girls and 20 Junior Varsity girls.

Both teams have been busy competing this winter season at invitational competitions held in Howard County, Frederick County and Baltimore County.  The varsity team placed first at the Frederick County Invitational, and they placed second at the Howard and Baltimore Invitationals.  The junior varsity team placed first at all three of these competitions.

Because of the win, Leonardtown’s varsity cheerleaders now advance to the Maryland Regional Championship to be held at Arundel High School in Gambrills on Feb. 12.

The varsity team is coached by Donna Quade and the junior varsity team is coached by Linda Hammett.
