The citizens of Hughesville have been trying for a number of years to preserve the old character of Hughesville; not so much as it is now, but what it was and how much better it could be.ย Certain projects do not belong in our village and rural setting.ย One was a noisy, traffic inducing, brightly lit baseball stadium and one is having any of our rural parcels converted into heavy industrial business sites.ย
We went to the Maryland Department of Planning with information in hand and submitted Chaney Enterprises application, Frank Chaneyโs letter, the comments of the planning commission and all other pertinent data.ย The needs of Chaney Enterprises were very well articulated in this data.ย The State sifted through all the information and came up with their comments. These comments were sent in the form of a letter signed by Ms. Stephanie Martin, Director of Land Use Planning and Analysis to the Charles County Commissioners.ย I would like to thank Ms. Martin for her comments and hold with the state on their Smart Growth initiative.ย I am hoping it can become better integrated and accepted by local governments in their land use planning decisions.
