LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A 20-year-old man has been charged with assault after what deputies described as a neighborhood brawl in which two men were allegedly “jumped” and attacked with glass bottles. The suspect was identified after deputies responded to a separate medical call an hour later and found him with a severe laceration to his arm.
The incident occurred on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, on Valley Estates Drive in Lexington Park. According to the statement of probable cause, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a large fight. The two victims told deputies that a female had started throwing glass bottles near them, and when they asked her to stop, a group of three males attacked them.
One victim, according to deputies, suffered multiple lacerations to his back and a swollen eye and was transported to the hospital. Deputies noted the victim had an altered mental status that indicated a possible head injury.
The victims described one of their attackers as a young man with dreadlocks who was hanging out at a nearby residence. A sergeant located a man matching the description, later identified as Kavondre Emon Watts, of no fixed address, inside the residence with blood on his arm, but deputies said he was uncooperative.
About an hour later, deputies responded to a medical call in the same neighborhood and found Watts with a severe laceration to his left arm. According to charging documents, Watts told deputies he had injured himself while “playing with a knife” and denied involvement in the earlier fight. Deputies said the victims were later shown a photograph of Watts and identified him as one of the men who assaulted them.
Watts was charged via a criminal summons with second-degree assault, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison. A preliminary inquiry is scheduled for Sept. 19, 2025.
