PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – On February 3, 2025, Joshua Walter Messick, 36, of Lexington Park, was sentenced in the Circuit Court for Calvert County, to 10 years incarceration, with 1 year of active time, followed by 3 years of supervised probation, for the crime of involuntary manslaughter. The sentence was imposed by the Honorable Mark W. Carmean.
In 2023, Messick was working as a security guard at CalvertHealth Medical Center in Prince Frederick when he was called upon to escort the victim from the lobby. Once outside the building, Messick shoved the victim to the ground, causing him to hit his head on the pavement. The victim sustained a brain injury and died.Â
Messick was convicted by a jury in August 2024. The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Christopher J. Monte.

Who was the victim?
The dead guy that was pushed to the ground.
I don’t think it matters..he’s dead. Will it really complete the story anymore!?!?
Those of us that follow the law and try to protect others.
1 year for killing a man!!! Are we serious here??
He got credit for ONE year he has been in custody!. He has to serve NINE more years.
Need a new judge. Should be straight 10 years period. Let the parole board do its job.
Need more details. What led to the shoving? People often treat hospitals employees terribly.
I stand corrected…he DOES only get to serve ONE year in jail with three years of supervised realease. The rest of his sentence is suspended!. So he really didn’t get sentenced to 10 years. He got of light.. I am really insulted by how lenient this guy was treated. I am shocked…..
