Waldorf, MD – A Charles County warehouse sustained damage early Tuesday morning, Aug. 16 when a lightning strike started a fire, state investigators reported.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze occurred at the Marjam Supply Company on Acton Lane in Waldorf at approximately 12:34 a.m.
“The fire was the result of a lightning strike along the roof of the warehouse,” a deputy fire marshal’s report stated. “The fire extended into one of the storage bays, however, it was extinguished by the sprinklers before causing significant interior damage.”
Damage to the 9,000 square-foot structure and its contents is estimated at $100,000. No injuries were reported.
Forty-six firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm fire and brought the flames under control in 20 minutes.
