Moses Saldana, Jr. has been reappointed to another four-year term as chairman of the St. Maryโ€™s County Alcohol Beverage Board, an at-large position. Chairmen of the board have in the past presided over the meetings but have not voted. Saldana would like that to change.

The inability of the chairman to vote has led the board to some quorum problems in several recent high profile cases. Saldana says the board rules could be changed to allow him to vote, just as the county commissioner president can. The issue will be brought up for discussion at an upcoming board meeting.
At Thursday board meeting, newly appointed member Aaron Mathis attended his second meeting. Mathis represents the 1st Commissioner District on the board.
At the meeting the board announced after an executive session that Board Inspector Tommy Thompson would not be able to continue his duties because of a recent stroke and doctorโ€™s orders not to drive for six months.
Board Administrator Tamara Hildebrand said she and the boardโ€™s alcohol enforcement coordinator DFC James Stone have been able to fill in temporarily but the position really needs to be filled. The board will advertise for a replacement.
Saldana and other board members praised Thompson for his service to the board.
