On Dec. 3, at approximately 12:45 a.m., deputies responded to Three Notch Road and Thompson Corner Road in Mechanicsville for a report of a single vehicle motor vehicle collision. Emergency units from Mechanicsville and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene as well.
The deputy sheriffโs investigation revealed Lisa Marie Tippett, 44 of Lusby, was operating 2006 Mazda 6, passenger vehicle, drove off of the roadway, struck the stop sign at the north entrance to Thompson Corner Road, continued over a curb and came to rest in the shrubbery.ย
Tippett was still seated behind the wheel of the vehicle when deputies arrived. The vehicle did not have registration plates attached. A computer check of the vehicle and Tippettโs driverโs license revealed the vehicle was registered to Mark Alan Tippett and the registration to the vehicle expired in January of 2008. Lisa Marie Tippettโs driverโs license is suspended.
As Deputy D. Harris was speaking to Tippett he could detect a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage upon her breath and person.
According to the District Court Charging Document, Tippett stated to a deputy, โI am drunk, and I smoked crack earlier tonight.โ However, a field sobriety test could not be given because Tippett was transported to St. Maryโs Hospital where she was treated and released.
Upon her release, Tippett was arrested and charged with not wearing a seatbelt, driving while suspended and driving a motor vehicle without current tags. Tippett is currently incarcerated awaiting an appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
The investigation is continuing and further charges may be pending. The charging document also stated that the results of the blood kit administered at the hospital were not yet available and that a preliminary breath test administered to Tippett by corrections personnel yielded a .18 blood alcohol content.
