Dr. Derek Sabedra, Vice-President of the St. Mary’s County Tennis Association and current St. Mary’s Ryken head girls’ tennis coach, was awarded the United States Tennis Association’s 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award.
Dr. Sabedra was honored on July 29, 2017 at halftime of the Washington Kastles professional match vs. the Orange County Breakers. He was awarded this honor for his work with the tennis association’s Junior Team Tennis programs, conducting local charity tennis tournaments, directing the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference post season tournament, and being a Maryland State Tennis District IV representative.
