The rockfish are hot in the Potomac River at Ragged Point and Dolly Parton, where big and small rockfish are breaking and hitting anything that moves. This has been the pattern for a week. The small rockfish are 20 to 25 inches, and the big ones are 30 to 35 inches.

The big rockfish in the Potomac River are near St. George Island and around Piney Point up to Stewart’s Pier. These rockfish in the deep holes are 40 to 50 inches. They are not as consistent as the fish in the shallows on the Virginia side, but most get their limit if they wait them out.

The Chesapeake Bay is loaded with big fish everywhere. They do not bite all day, everyday, but there are plenty of stories of great bites when they get ready. No one is coming home empty-handed, but some days you have to put in some time. The biggest one so far has been 52 inches and 50 pounds.

More good news! The white perch are in the deep holes in the mouth of the Patuxent River. Bloodworm dunkers at the deep hole (60 feet) off Green Holly got great catches of perch in the 10 to 12 inch range this week. Perch are also off the burned Navy Pier under the Solomons bridge, at Hawk’s Nest, and in Kingston Hollow.
