Mens Slow Pitch Championship is set!!!! Game 1 Tuesday Night!!!!

 

Hello Sports Fans, I’m Buddy Long. And this is the Friday September 20th edition of Southern Maryland Sports.

 

 

Mens Slow Pitch Softball Playoffs: C&L/Coors Light upsets Bay Country Contractors!!! Will meet Burch Propane in Championship Series!!!!

 

The championship series is set in the Mens Slow Pitch Softball League as both semifinal series came to an end Thursday evening. At Knight Life Field, top seeded Burch Propane topped Hi Octane 26-10 while C&L/Coors Light forced a third and deciding game with second seeded Bay Country Contractors at Andersons Bar Field, winning Game three 25-14.

 

Game 1 of the Championship Series will begin Tuesday evening September 24 at Moose Lodge Field at 6pm.

 

Womens Softball League Playoffs: Southern Maryland Elite to face Andersons Bar in Womens League Championship!!!

 

The top 2 seeds will be paired up in the Womens Softball League Championship Series next week as top seeded Southern Maryland Elite will face second seeded Andersons Bar in the title game. Game 1 of the Championship Series will be Wednesday September 25 at 7th District Park at 6pm.

 

In the meantime, Southern Maryland Elite will take a trip to Orlando this weekend for the Class D Worlds before returning home for the Championship Series.

 

Baltimore Orioles: Lackey dominant on the mound in win over Orioles!!!

John Lackey pitched a 2 hitter Thursday evening at Fenway Park, allowing the Boston Redsox to keep the Baltimore Orioles from sweeping the series, AND clinching a berth in the American League as well with a 3-1 win. The Red Sox will be in the playoffs for the first time since 2009. Lackey had a no hitter through six and one third innings before Adam Jones smashed a homer for the Orioles only score of the evening. Lackey went all nine innings, finishing with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Meanwhile, Chris Tillman went seven innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, with 8 strikeouts.

 

The Orioles lost ground in the battle for a wildcard spot as Texas beat Tampa Bay, dropping the Orioles 2 games out of a final playoff spot. Baltimore and Tampa Bay will begin a critical 3 game series this evening at Tropicana Field with Jason Hammel returning to the rotation for the Orioles, going against David Price.
