(Bridgeport CT. July 13, 2015) — Coming off a three game sweep of the Sugar Land Skeeters, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish by the final of 2-1.

Bridgeport took the lead first with a run in the bottom of the fourth.  Both John Alonso, and Jobduan Morales singled to put two runners on base.  This was then followed with an Andres Rodriguez single to score Morales to make it 1-0 Bridgeport.

That proved to be the only run of the game for the Bluefish, as the Blue Crabs scored two unanswered runs.  In the top of the sixth, with one out Anthony Vega lashed a single to center, and two batters later, Fred Lewis laced a triple to the right centerfield alley way to score Vega to tie the game at 1-1.  In the top of the seventh, Zach Wilson led off with a single.  Two batters later, Jake Opitz banged a single to center to put two runners on base.  After a double steal that put runners at second and third, Wilson from third on a wild pitch to give Southern Maryland the 2-1 lead.

The bullpen combination of Trey Barham, Orlando Santos, and Cody Eppley pitched three scoreless innings, while RHP Cody Eppley picked up his first save of the season.  Starter Brian Baker went six innings, allowing a run on six hits, while striking out four.

Game two of the four game set will take place tomorrow at 7:05 P.M.  RHP Brian Grening (3-4, 4.99) will start for Southern Maryland, while LHP Scott Maine (2-5, 5.40) will toss for Bridgeport.
